“OPPRESSION”
Acrylic on canvas 8X5ft,
2013-2016
Born out of my involvement with an anti-oppression committee in 2012, this piece became an important introspective exercise in understanding how oppression can occur and more precisely a tribute to the resilience of Aboriginal people who’ve survived oppression in Canada.
Ironically, I would not know until the following year, that this image would be the image of my ancestors who were
successfully buried in the process of colonialism until now.

“Brazil”
Acrylic on canvas 2.6X3.4 ft 2012
Traveling to a World Armwrestling Championship, near Sao Paulo, I was marked by the sprawls of hundreds of shack-like living quarters amidst the thick lush tropical greenery and massive condominiums. The dichotomy between the rich and poor was striking.

“IMPRESSION OF 'FORGUES', FRANCE”
Acrylic on canvas 2.2X2.7ft,
2011
I spent many years travelling back to Forgues, a cherished little community I once lived in, as a student, in 1990. I grew quite close to my neighbours and the family who cared for me during my stay. This painting was painted while I was in my room, in France, with any paint I could find. I then almost lost this painting on the train as I travelled towards Venice for a world Armwrestling competition. Thankfully, the conductor stopped the train.

“MUCK”
Acrylic on canvas 3X3ft,
2011
My cousin “Muck” passed away in 2011 and I spent many days sitting by Pearl Beach Ontario mourning his loss. It was
the following October when I returned to that very spot and it was incredibly warm and satisfying to return to that solitude. I’m sure he was with me during those days; the water shimmered so brightly around all of the autumn leaves.
